So Facebook has acquired Instagram for $1 billion in cash and shares. The deal was announced by Zuckerberg on Facebook earlier today.
It’s kind of a hard thing to write about at this present time, what my opinion is, wondering where the app will go in terms of its future. An ability to crop your photos 1x1 and choose from 10+ filters to “add” to them seems like such a simple idea, yet it is an idea for a lot of people that has become almost essential when it comes to sharing photos from their phones across social network platforms. In this voyeuristic world, Instagram seems like a step up in the way users can keep in touch with each other, check up, spy, promote or portray their life in a way they want to be seen.. A land where all it takes is a double tap to tell someone you like something (normally dog, cat, food or flare).
I for one like the current system.. It works. User interface is snappy and the app is fast enough to cope with the current daily over saturation of imagery. It’s this tied with the ability to make shit photos good that makes it enjoyable and addictive. With Facebook involved will it be the same? If the slow slow slow temperamental Facebook app is anything to go by I’d have to say I doubt it.
